Champion Debate Camp 2009
1 school, 10 rooms, 5 days, 1 executive director, 2 co-directors, 8 instructors, 2 counselors, 34 campers, 4 lab groups, and
2 Champions.

One School: Colvin Run Elementary School, a newer Fairfax County Public School, served as the location for the 2009 Champion Debate Camp. Its new rooms and facilities served campers and counselors well.
Ten Rooms: One staff room serviced the instructors, with four other rooms forming the teaching classrooms and five more serving as round rooms during the tournament.
Five Days: Camp ran from June 22 to June 26, beginning and closing with special ceremonies. A tournament was held on the last two days, and a talent show followed the closing rounds of the tournament on the final day.
One Executive Director: Crystal Zheng, returned from Stanford, led the camp this year. She was in charge of Group One, known also as "The Stockers."
Two Co-Directors: Franklin Zheng and Christopher Lee served as co-directors this year. Chris lead Group Two, known as the "Bad Affs," and Franklin taught numerous electives, including the popular "How to Make Friends."
Eight Instructors: The core of Champion Debate's staff was made up of eight talented debaters from the Thomas Jefferson Policy Debate Team. These were (in no particular order): Han Kim, Katie Lin, Jenny Zhao, Sulan Zheng, Johnny Kim, Max Wang, Crystal Yi, and Sungmin Sohn.
Two Counselors: Ratna Gill and Betty Huang volunteered to help at camp this year, and their services were indispensible in keeping the camp running and taking pictures.
Thirty-Four Campers: Thirty four campers sat in the spacious gymnasium the morning of June 22, and an equal number walked out of the same gym five days later, confident debaters skilled in the art of persuasion.
Four Lab Groups: The campers were divided into four lab groups of similar size, each headed by two or three instructors depending on their size. These groups were: The Stockers (Group One), The Bad Affs (Group Two), The Great Debaters (Group Three), and The Aff Kickers (Group Four).
Two Champions: Brandon Pang and Gene Chang were the conclusive winners of the 2009 Champion Debate Camp Tournament, with an undefeated record of 6-0. Hailing from the Bad Affs, this team was noted for exceptional research ability and speaking skill, with Gene Chang winning second place speaker.
