CRYSTAL ZHENG - Director
Crystal is currently at Stanford University pursuing a degree in biology. She debates at Stanford, and is captain of the Stanford Debate Team. Before that, she spent four years debating on the Thomas Jefferson Policy Debate Team. For three of those years, she participated in the training of younger team members. She held several officer positions on the team, including captain her junior and senior years. She has won numerous awards in her vast debate career, including several District, Regional, and State awards, several local tournament awards, and many speaker awards. She qualified for the selective national tournament three years in a row, and participated in many prestigious national invitational tournaments such as those at Harvard University, Emory University, Wake Forest University, the University of Michigan, and many more.
LULU WANG - Director
Lulu is a senior at TJ and has been a member of the TJ Debate Team for four years now, having served as the captain during the 2007-2008 school year. She has attended many prestigious tournaments, including the Wake Forest Earlybird Invitational, the Harvard National Invitational, and the Princeton National Invitational. She will assist in instruction and research.
HUAN SONG - Instructor
Huan is currently finishing her junior year at TJ and has been a member of the TJ Policy Debate Team for three years. She received her debate training from he University of Michigan Debate Institute. Over the course three years, Huan has competed in prestigious competitions including the Harvard invitational and has received many speaker awards as well as recognitions in local tournaments. She will be one of the teaching coordinators for policy debate team during the 2008-2009 school year. Apart from policy debate, Huan is the Vice President of both the English and Chinese Gavel Club, associations of Toastmasters International.
FRANKLIN ZHENG - Instructor
Franklin is an active member of the TJ Policy Debate Team, and will serve as a Teaching Assistant at the Champion Debate Camp. During his debate career, he has accomplished many difficult feats, such as winning the Liberty District Championship, winning the regional tournament, and qualifying for the state championship. He is currently finishing his sophomore year at TJ.
HANNAH CLARK - Instructor
Hannah is Franklin's former partner on the TJ Policy Debate Team, and has accomplished the feats listed in Franklin's bio. She is currently debating with the Debate Team's captain, and has accomplished many impressive feats during this debate season alone. She is a former camper of the Champion Debate Camp, and will be assisting the directors throughout the camp in instruction and guidance. She is currently finishing her sophomore year at TJ.
CHRIS LEE - Teaching assistant
Chris is currently finishing his freshman year at TJ, and is an alum of the Champion Debate Camp! He is Katie's partner [see next], and attended the Harvard Invitational with her. He also attended the Washington Area Metrofinals tournament, placing fifth speaker in his division. He will be assisting with instruction and guidance at this year's camp.
KATIE LIN - Teaching assistant
Katie is currently finishing her freshman year at TJ and is an alum of the Champion Debate Camp! This year, as part of the debate team, she and her partner were invited to attend the Harvard National Debate Invitational to represent TJ's Policy Debate Team. She will be assisting with instruction and guidance at this year's camp.
ABIGAIL XU - Teaching assistant
Abigail is currently finishing her freshman year at TJ and is a member of the TJ Debate Team! She will be assisting with instruction and guidance at this year's camp.
CRYSTAL YI - Teaching assistant
Crystal is currently finishing her freshman year at TJ, and is an alum of the Champion Debate Camp! She will be assisting with instruction and guidance at this year's camp.
JENNY ZHAO - Teaching assistant
Jenny is currently finishing her freshman year at TJ, and is an alum of the Champion Debate Camp! She will be assisting with instruction and guidance at this year's camp.
COLIN BUSS
- Director--not on-site for the summer
Colin also spent four years debating at Thomas Jefferson,
and trained debaters for the last three of those. He was an
officer on the team for three years, including captain his
senior year. Aside from participating in numerous
tournaments around the country, he has won such awards as
First Place in the Washington area, Regional Champion, and
District Champion, just to name a few. He and Crystal won
2nd place at the Virginia State tournament during his
junior year and her senior year. Colin received his debate
training at the selective Michigan National Debate
Institute and, later, at the prestigious University of
Michigan Seven Week Debate Camp. Colin just finished his
first year in Cornell University's College of Engineering
pursuing a degree in chemical engineering. He will not be
joining in the on-site instruction for the 2008 camp,
although he will be assisting in the development of lesson
plans, activities, and research, etc.
